Balsam Bashing

15th June 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Come and join us for our annual balsam bashing event.
Himalayan Balsam is a non-native plant that has spread uncontrollably throughout much of Lancashire’s green spaces. It is fast-growing and spreads quickly, invading wet habitat at the expense of other, native flowers. Its explosive seed pods aid its spread by sending the seeds into the river, causing further dispersal downstream. When it grows, it blocks out the light to our native plants which die back, which then adversely affects other wildlife.
Several years ago, Conway Park was full of it but we have managed to tackle various areas and mostly erradicate it between Belton Hill and the railway. Further downstream on the former Ingol Golf Course, it is not the same picture!
Help us to keep on top of the issue and spend a couple of hours pulling up this invasive weed. Full instructions will be provided. Please wear sensible shoes, long trousers and gloves.
