The Great Get together & Balsam Bash
On Saturday June 15th, the Friends Of Conway Park hosted their Annual Balsam Bash & Litter Pick in Conway Park playing fields in Fulwood Preston. This year the event was affiliated to the Jo Cox Foundation, for the promotion of Communities coming together. The Co-Op, through their sponsorship scheme, very kindly provided refreshments as well as litter picking equipment for the event. Although the weather was unpredictable, the event attracted a lot of people who cleared a substantial amount of litter from the north end of the park. In addition, a large bank of the invasive plant species “Himalayan Balsam” was also successfully pulled up, to encourage re growth of native species of wild flowers in the area.
Friends Of Conway Park would like thank all those who took part in making this event such a worthwhile and successful day.
After 4.5 years of fundraising, Friends Of Conway Park, in conjunction with Preston City Council are currently seeking agreement to commence works on phase 1 of the Children’s play area restoration and rebuild. It is hoped that works will commence in the Autumn of this year. Many thanks to all who have contributed in so many different ways.
